چکیده

Medical guidelines are hard to formalise because of their inherent fragmentary nature. Because of this, a formalism where details of guideline text are omitted is justified. In this paper, we describe medical histories and expectations and illustrate them with a number of examples from the Dutch breast cancer guideline. We applied our approach to an assumptionbased argumentation system for its reasoning facilities to support guideline construction. Examples concerning treatment selection in the breast cancer guideline are discussed.

Some design guidelines for practical argumentation systems

We give some design guidelines for argumentation systems. These guidelines are meant to indicate essential features of argumentation when used to support “practical reasoning”. We express the guidelines in terms of postulates. We use a notion of redundancy to provide a formal counterpart of these postulates. We study the satisfaction of these postulates in two existing argumentation frameworks:...

Historical Overview of Formal Argumen- tation

This chapter gives an overview of the history of formal argumentation in terms of a distinction between argumentation-based inference and argumentation-based dialogue. Systems for argumentationbased inference are about which conclusions can be drawn from a given body of possibly incomplete, inconsistent of uncertain information. They ultimately define a nonmonotonic notion of logical consequenc...

Soft Systems Methodology for Implementing Clinical Practice Guidelines in A General Hospital: A study protocol

Background: It is notoriously challenging to implement evidence-based care and to update and improve health care policy. Adhering to evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) serves as the driving force behind making decisions based on the best evidence and making efforts for improving the quality of patient care and outcomes. Despite requiring Iranian hospitals to implement CPGs in Ja...

Probabilistic abstract argumentation: an investigation with Boltzmann machines

Probabilistic argumentation and neuro-argumentative systems offer new computational perspectives for the theory and applications of argumentation, but their principled construction involve two entangled problems. On the one hand, probabilistic argumentation aims at combining the quantitative uncertainty addressed by probability theory with the qualitative uncertainty of argumentation, but proba...

Combining Argumentation and Hybrid Evolutionary Systems in a Portfolio Construction Application

In this paper we present an application for the construction of mutual fund portfolios. It is based on a combination of Intelligent Methods, namely an argumentation based decision making framework and a forecasting algorithm combining Genetic Algorithms (GA), MultiModel Partitioning (MMP) theory and Extended Kalman Filters (EKF). The argumentation framework is employed in order to develop mutua...
